THE BELFAST AREA
Dating back to 1770, with an economy based by turns on shipbuilding, fishing, and manufacturing, Belfast has maintained some of its blue-collar character even after the arrival of MBNA (now Bank of America) and the Hutchinson Center of the University of Maine in the early 1990s.
